Kingsmead Recreation Ground
Kingsmead Recreation Ground, in Wycombe Marsh is owned and managed by Buckinghamshire Council and is a large area of grassland with the River Wye on one side and Back Stream on the other. 2025 Update
We were delighted that Wycombe Mayor Councillor Nathan Thomas officially cut the ribbon on our new interpretation panel at Kingsmead in April 2025.
The project, kindly funded by Chilterns National Landscape Access for All programme with some match funding from Buckinghamshire Council has ensured that the footbridge is repaired and a new smooth footpath with handrail has been created.
This improves accessibility for all ages and abilities from what was a steep, muddy path. Vegetation has been cut back to open sightlines as we are keen to make it feel safer for all users but especially girls and women, reflecting the findings of recent studies: Click here for more information.
Trees have been pollarded and crowns lifted to let more light into the river too. This will help in stream vegetation thrive and in turn support more aquatic life. A traditional mixed species native hedgerow has been planted with a view in the coming years to lay it as a priority habitat. on the park side 40m of hedgerow were laid creating a living corridor for birds, mammals and invertebrates.
We are looking forward to instream improvements in the coming months subject to Environment Agency approval thanks to funding from Rebel Restoration.

Increasing biodiversity at Kingsmead is our top priority as well as helping to manage the River Wye and Back Stream. The images below are from some of our previous projects.
We’re excited to have had recent sightings of Water Rail Rallus aquaticus on The Wye at Kingsmead.
