Come and join John Shaw he will be doing scrub land management at Gomms Wood. These are important Chalk grasslands which support a rich diversity of plants which in turn support specialist invertebrates such as Chalkhill and Adonis Blue and the Duke of Burgundy Butterflies. Our task is to keep time from claiming the chalk grasslands and turning it into less valuable secondary woodland. We achieve this by cutting down scrub and cutting and raking the grass. Thus prevents the soil becoming enriched as the grass rots down. Therefore allowing the delicate wildflowers to germinate. We also have a bonfire to burn the grass and scrub cuttings.
