Join Chiltern Rangers to fell Western Hemlock from this beautiful ancient woodland and restore it back to it's natural native broad leafed habitat. The felled Hemlock will be cut into smaller pieces and made into log pile houses for wildlife.
Western Hemlock was introduced by botanist David Douglas in the 19th century for timber. The wood was used for roofs and boxes as it holds nails well without splitting. This is a fast growing non-native tree, it casts a large shaded area which means very few plants or wildlife species can live beneath them.
We will be running two sessions:
AM Session: 10am (safety briefing) - 12pm
PM Session: 12pm (safety briefing) - 2pm
Join us for either session, or for both, but please ensure you arrive on time for one of the safety briefings at Holy Trinity Church Car Park, Penn Street, HP7 0PX. All tools, training and gloves provided, as well as teas/coffees/hot chocolate! Please bring yourself a packed lunch if you are attending both sessions.Find out more »
