Chalk, Cherries and Chairs project with the Chilterns Conservation Board

Our Community Ranger, Leila Ashraf-Carr, is helping to deliver on a new and exciting project called Chalk, Cherries and Chairs. This five-year Landscape Partnership Scheme, overseen by our friends at the Chilterns Conservation Board, is working towards a vision of “A healthy, resilient, connected landscape; with its unique natural, historical and cultural heritage cherished by present and future generations”. The Landscape Partnership scheme aims to engage with the local communities within the central Chilterns district, providing opportunities for people to get involved and volunteer, to increase and improve wildlife spaces and for communities to learn, create and take action.

This partnership’s aims are threefold:

  • To restore, enhance and record wildlife habitats, landscape features and the cultural heritage of the Chilterns;
  • To create new opportunities for people to investigate and celebrate the cultural and natural heritage of the Chilterns, inspiring more people to become stewards for their local heritage;
  • To strengthen the capacity of local communities to take action for their local landscapes and natural heritage.

With all that being said, it is YOU, Chilterns-dwellers, that we would love to see getting involved with the many volunteering opportunities that this partnership will bring our way. Working on many varied sites around the central Chilterns, there will be plenty of opportunities to get your boots on the ground and directly contribute to reconnecting our landscape with its people, creating homes and enhancing habitats for wildlife and doing your bit to mitigate the ever-increasing loss of connection to our natural world and its wonders.

Do you have some time to spare to help us rejuvenate and regenerate the Chilterns landscape?  We would love to hear from you.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
—Margaret Mead
